In the world of virtual reality there are many types of devices to enter this incredible world, but despite there being many types, many times we do not consider the advantages and disadvantages that they offer us, so in this blog I will analyze the differences or advantages that I I’d rather use the HTC Vive instead of an Oculus Quest (which are the heads if we start.

One of the things I would like to start with is that to qualify one of these devices in my cso I would prefer it to be a 6DOF headset so an HTC vive would work just fine, as would the SDKs which didn’t make much of a difference.
Now we can see another important aspect and this is the controllers, the main difference is clear, while the Quest controllers are smaller and wider, the HTC controllers are longer and thinner and both have the buttons positioned differently.

Oculus Quest 2:

HTC Vive:

Therefore, both controllers are quite good and do what they should.

Now we turn to the issue of graphic quality where the Quest exceeds with a resolution of 2160 x 1200px, the advantage that the HTC has is that it has a wider field of vision in addition to having an OLED / AMOLED screen that offers a higher contrast and wider viewing angles than LCD screens.

With this we can conclude that virtual reality headsets have their variations but in the end the decision to choose which one you need depends on you since you can prefer graphic quality or 3DOF instead of 6DOF, the important thing is to choose the best option for you and we can see that the HTC vive are pretty good.

Finally I want to highlight the reasons why you could choose one of these devices:

Quest 2:

  • higher resolution
  • Wireless
  • Can be wired to your PC
  • Access to Oculus exclusives, as well as Steam VR games/software
  • It can be standalone, so it’s portable but you can’t take your Steam VR library with you.
  • Potential 120Hz update rate screen

HTC Vive:

  • Full body VR tracking
  • Upgrading a component at a time, you can mix and match with a new Vive headset (such as the Pro Eye or Pro 2) or use the Valve Index controllers
  • Matching the performance of your current computer, it’s 90hz refresh and a lower resolution than the Quest 2, so it may be a bit easier to regulate the settings.
  • Can be wireless with the wireless add-on which doesn’t rely on your home WiFi.
  • People say the wand controllers are better for some games, because those VR games were designed for the Vive.

Well that’s all, I hope that this blog is quite informative to enter this great world of virtual reality, I say goodbye and see you in the next blog.
